G T DATA
Global TimePiece
Global TimePiece was developed as a quick and easy method to determine dates and times of Cities around the World, compared to the user's computer date and time. A Location City is selected by the user - all other functions are computed.
After the Location City is set, select a desired Country from the Country screen, and click "Cities" for dates and times of Cities of the selected Country.
Time Zones begin at 1, east of the International Date Line, and end at 24, west of the IDL. This method was used instead of the +12 and -12 Zones from GMT.
The Time Zones are political, and do not necessarily comply with the 15 degree Geographic Zones. Irregular political Time Zones are utilized mainly for convenience between neighboring Cities, States and Countries, within gross geographic Zone boundaries. Some Countries, and some Cities within Countries have fractional Time Zones. Each City has a Zone or fractional Zone included in the database. The Country database includes "Countries" for ease of inquiry. For example, Wake Island is considered a Country in the database.
Daylight Saving Times (Summer Times) vary widely throughout the world, and there are periodic Governmental changes. For example, Mexico has elected to begin DST for the entire Country in 1996, utilizing the same dates as the USA. The majority of Countries and Cities do not observe a Daylight Savings Time. There are at least 17 different DST dates, and therefore formulas, for Countries and Cities that observe DST. Most of the beginning and ending dates for DST were obtained from the U S Department of Transportation, the Official Airline Guide, and personal communications.
The DST dates have been computed to begin and end at 12:00 midnight. The DST dates should be accurate through the year 2099, unless there are prior Governmental changes.
